DAN School of Drama and Music
The Dans’ passion for theatre is no secret. Dancap Productions has established itself on the Toronto theatre scene by bringing an impressive slate of major Broadway shows to the city and has even earned a Tony award along the way. Executive Director of AMDF, Alyse Dan, graduated from the Drama program at Queen’s University. That background gives the Dan family a unique appreciation of what it takes to make it in this highly competitive industry.
AMDF recognized the opportunity to support ambitions of greatness within the arts by donating $5-million to Queen’s University. This effort helped to merge the Department of Drama and School of Music to create the DAN School of Drama & Music.
By providing resources and opportunities for students to pursue career paths in the arts – not just on the performance side but also on the production, business and leadership fronts – Queen’s is distinguishing its program from all others in Canada. The school is now far better aligned with the realities and challenges motivated professionals must overcome in today’s theatre and music industries. The donation helps to attract the best talent at both the student and teaching levels. It aims to give productions unprecedented levels of resources that are required to stage top-notch productions and performances.
