Musical Stage Company

The Aubrey & Marla Dan Fund for New Musicals

Given the passion that musical theatre represents to the Dan family, the Aubrey & Marla Dan Fund for New Musicals is the first ever fund to commission new Canadian musical works. The Musical Stage Company is the largest and leading charitable musical theatre company in the country, and this contribution lets the organization invest in some of Canada’s most promising writing talent.

Through the company, commissioned projects have the opportunity to undergo additional development or production opportunities. The fund offers financial and dramaturgical support to creators in devising and developing the first draft of a new musical. Ideas that exemplify the most potential are awarded an $8,000 commission to cover a five-week writing period, and a private reading of the first draft. Significant contributions like this give the Musical Stage Company the means to confidently pursue their overarching goal of establishing Canada as a leader in the development and staging of musical theatre.
