Workman Arts

If you Ask Me Project

Workman Arts is a multidisciplinary arts organization that promotes a greater understanding of mental health and addiction issues through creation and presentation.

The If You Ask Me project supports 10 youth filmmakers who identify as living with mental health and/or addiction issues. The filmmakers build knowledge and skills through weekly workshop sessions with professional filmmakers and also work with youth mentors who guide and support the filmmaking process. The program culminates in a premiere screening at the Rendezvous with Madness Festival and participants receive a festival pass to attend events and meet industry professionals from around the globe. The completed films are accepted into distribution with Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre (CFMDC).

“If You Ask Me was created because there is a positive link between mental wellness, creative expression and involvement in the arts. If You Ask Me invites youth from across Canada into a Mad-positive space where they can be themselves as they create new work and advance their careers in an understanding environment that supports, but does not define them by their mental health issues. We are thrilled with the generous support from the Aubrey and Marla Dan Foundation that makes this program possible.”
