Scholarships and the Mental Health Peer Mentorship Program
The Dan family has provided scholarship funds to strengthen approaches to combat diabetes since 2003.
The Diabetes Hope Foundation (DHF) received funds to establish its new Peer Mental Healthcare Model for youth living with diabetes and mental health challenges.
DHF assessed Ontario’s existing mental health services for children and youth in Ontario, identified gaps and barriers to access, and proceeded to develop a range of youth-led solutions. That project produced comprehensive administrative guidelines and necessary core competencies for a Peer Support Program to be integrated into existing diabetes healthcare services. AMDF’s funds have helped to support the training of 50 Peer Support Mentors to pilot the model.
